Program Information

The PA residents will dedicate 2 1/2 to 3 of the twelve months of their training to surgical first assisting (outside OR rotation). This time is spent at local area hospitals for which the program operates within a Letter of Affiliation. The current local area hospitals are: St Bernadine’s Medical Center and Redlands Community Hospital.

The Orthopaedic Department of Arrowhead Regional Medical Center (ARMC) has affiliations with Loma Linda University, Western University of Health Sciences, Touro University, and University of Southern California to provide clinical rotations to MD and PA students.

Please reference the curriculum link regarding the specific clinical rotations and the length of training for each rotation.

Remuneration & Benefits

The PA fellow’s services will be generously remunerated with a stipend of $50,000 for the twelve month training program.

Medical Benefits: Arrowhead Orthopaedics offers each eligible PA fellow a comprehensive HMO medical insurance plan, with options for dental and optical coverage. The Group will pay the premiums for the fellow only. Spouse and dependent coverage may be obtained from Arrowhead Orthopaedics at the expense of the resident fellow.

Liability Insurance:

Professional Liability Insurance coverage is provided by ARMC while rotating at the hospital. For all rotations outside of the primary teaching site of ARMC the PA fellow is covered under a professional liability policy purchased by Arrowhead Orthopaedics.

Paid Time Off:

The PA fellow is allotted 10 days of paid time off during the twelve month fellowship. These 10 days include vacation, sick, and interview time. Leave is not to be taken during on-call responsibilities or during the 3 week pre-fellowship training period. Leave is to be taken only during OR rotations completed at ARMC. In the event the fellow needs more than 10 days, the circumstances regarding the time off request will be considered and if granted an equal number of days/shifts must be remediated and arranged by the program director.

At the completion of the fellowship program you have earned up to fifty category I CME credits granted by the AAPA. No CME time is allowed during the fellowship year.

The PA fellow is provided with a meal allowance while on duty to purchase food at the ARMC café.

All textbooks for didactic training are provided to the PA fellow at the start of the program.
